How To Enhance Your Eyelashes

Woman with beautiful eyelashes If the old proverbs are true and the eyes are the windows to the soul, then eyelashes are the drapes that adorn those windows. They are one of the key traits that people note about a person’s eyes – favorably if the lashes are lush and long, and less-favorably if they aren’t. For a lot of women, lashes can be a major issue.

What follows are some ways to make your lashes look their very best, but you must first identify the needs of your lash type. Are your lashes short or long, straight or curly, thick and dark or thin and spare? Ideally, you want long, curly, thick and dark lashes. Any other traits can be modified, and here’s how:

First, invest in an eyelash curler. This tool – while looking like some science fiction torture device is designed to bend the lashes away from the eye and make them more visible and making the eyes appear more open.

Second, you need to think about the type of mascara formula you need. Modern cosmetic chemistry has given us a range of mascara types for a variety of situations: from thickening formulas, to lengthening formulas to combination mascaras that do it all.

If your lashes are fine or pale, look for a mascara that has thickening ingredients which will increase the diameter of the lash as well as darken the color. With a bold, lush lash, the eyes will appear brighter and more defined – which is always a good thing.

For those whose lashes are short, look for lengthening formulas that contain tiny fibers in the mascara that are adhered to the existing lashes and build up the length as the mascara is brushed on with the applicator. In some cases these formulas may be prone to clumping, but can be managed with the use of an eyelash comb once the mascara has had a time to dry.

Furthermore, if your lashes are sparse, you can talk to your doctor about whether one of the newer medications designed to re-grow lashes is right for you, or you can simply use your thickening mascara and a thin line of eyeliner against the edge of the eyelid to fill in the base of the lashes and make them appear more lush.
