Big Hair

Big hair has been a trend for a while that straight hair is preferred. Smooth, straight styles have dominated looks for quite some time. However, the most recent trends have shown that styles are moving back toward more volume. The latest awards shows have seen more high-volume, curly styles, which that big hair is coming back into fashion.

So why not take the opportunity to be ahead of the crowd in your area and go for a big hair look. Put away that flat iron and save yourself some time and energy with simple methods to get some added body and volume in your hair.

If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, you’re already ahead of the game. All you need to do is skip the step of trying to blow out the curl and iron the hair smooth. Instead, use a diffuser attachment on your hair dryer and/or invert your head while drying the hair to maximize the fullness in the hair. This can also be done by holding the hair away from the scalp while you dry the hair.

Furthermore, with your diffuser attached, be sure to scrunch the hair gently as you dry it, so that you encourage the hair’s natural wave to stay in place.

If you aren’t naturally gifted with curl, you can get it without resorting to chemical processing or harmful heat styling. Simply invest in some rollers with which to set the hair while it is damp (or wet and plied with styling product for long-lasting curl). Even without product, damp hair will dry and take on the wave pattern offered by the tool used. The current trend features larger, softer curl, so opt for larger tools. In addition, vary the size of the tools so that you can create a more natural looking wave pattern.

Remember, the larger the tool, the looser the curl. (The reverse is also true.) You can even use unconventional tools to create the curl, such as sponges (which give a natural variance in the curl depending on the amount of pressure used when winding the hair) or try juice canisters or the cans from a certain snack chip brand (which were popular yesteryear with women with very long hair). Other than that, the sky’s the limit.
